North East England heads to World Travel Market

Delegates from North East England will travel to the world’s largest travel and tourism event next month to promote what the region has to offer visitors.

World Travel Market London, is an annual event that connects the global travel community to meet and do business.

Destination North East England will be part of the UKInbound stand at the event alongside regional partners Alnwick Castle and Kynren.

Over 3 days the delegation, including Travel Trade Manager for North East England, Alex MacKenzie, will have 1:1 meetings with buyers, travel agents and tour operator from around the world; attend networking events and welcome travel professionals to the stand.

The event is an opportunity to inspire travel professionals to bring their customers to the region, to book trips, develop itineraries or to arrange future familiarisation trips for the industry.

Alnwick Castle and Kynren have joined as partners to further promote what they have to offer international visitors and groups.

Next year is set to be an exciting one for the organisers of Kynren as they unveil their most ambitious and exciting project to date: a brand-new historical theme park, Kynren – The Storied Lands.

Set to open in summer 2026, The Storied Lands will be a spectacular daytime attraction within the wider Kynren park in Bishop Auckland. This new experience will transport visitors through history, myth, and legend, bringing the past to life through breathtaking live-action performances.

Phase one of the park will feature five monumental shows and immersive experiences set against beautifully landscaped historical backdrops.

Unlike traditional theme parks that focus on rides, Kynren – The Storied Lands invites exploration and connection with the past, delivering multiple live action shows featuring heart pounding moments of action, thrilling stunts, incredible performances, immersive storytelling, epic music and innovative technology as it takes visitors on an emotional journey through time.

Performers will bring unforgettable historical scenes to life on enormous sets, enhanced by stunning special effects, with Auckland Palace providing a striking historical backdrop.

Alnwick Castle is also working on opening more areas of the Castle to the public. This year visitors were able visit Great Kitchen, for the first time. Part  of a four year project to rediscover,  restore and revitalise these historic kitchens, the project will see the Great Kitchen and four large larder rooms open to the public. A number of exciting discoveries have already been made including the incredible rediscovery of Victorian ovens, hidden behind a wall for decades, and the unveiling of the original stone flooring.

Visitors are transported back to the 19th century to learn about the cutting-edge steam and hydraulic technology that made Alnwick Castle’s kitchens a marvel of Victorian innovation.

With the help of experts and historians, the project will also look into the lives of the people who worked there and the culinary creations they made in upcoming phases of the restoration project, with further areas opening in 2026/27.

Alongside this exciting project, Alnwick Castle offers a wide range of tours, exhibitions, and experiences throughout the season:

  • Explore the Italianate State Rooms, home to masterpieces by Canaletto, Titian, Van Dyck, Turner, and Dobson.
  • Experience history brought to life by resident knights, ladies, and artisans, alongside a cast of engaging live performers.
  • Join Broomstick Training in the very spot where Harry Potter first learnt to fly.
  • Discover the Castle on screen, from Downton Abbey’s Brancaster Castle to appearances in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Elizabeth, and Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.
