Destination North East England

Unlocking the potential of the North East visitor economy

Destination North East England is a regional collaboration with an ambition to unlock the untapped potential in the North East by developing our regional eco-system, attracting investment and supporting industry.

North East England was chosen to deliver the first-ever Destination Development Partnership pilot in England, receiving £2.25 million from the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) over three years. This pilot has been the catalyst for the development of an ambitious ten-year plan that will double the size of our regional visitor economy and create a positive impact for our residents and those who call North East England home.

Destination North East England operates from Northumberland down to Durham, taking in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and North and South Tyneside working together to create jobs, develop skills, drive quality, create new experiences, work with the travel trade, support innovation, attract major events and improve the accessibility and sustainability of the sector.

The North East is leading the way in regenerative tourism with hotels, attractions and venues all committed to ensuring our destination is more accessible, inclusive and sustainable. Our businesses are taking action to enable visitors with specific needs to travel freely and to ensure their staff can create a warm and inclusive welcome.
