Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral is a medieval Cathedral built on a site of active Christian worship since 995. Erected over a forty year period between 1093-1133 it was built in honor of St. Cuthbert whose body continues to rest in a shrine behind the High Altar.
The Cathedral is also the final resting place of the Venerable Bede and St. Oswald. Today it continues to be a place where people are given the opportunity to encounter God and share in centuries of local history and traditions. Visitors can learn more about its history in the Durham Cathedral museum as well as climbing the 325 steps to the top of the Central Tower for spectacular views across the city.
